Code of Conduct
In order to maintain a collaborative and friendly learning environment, all event participants and advisors are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct.
- Embrace the Kaggle Spirit! Kaggle thrives on open-source collaboration. Participants should actively contribute to the community by sharing their work, kernels, and insights.
- Respect and Inclusivity: Encourage a diverse range of perspectives and backgrounds. Avoid offensive language or comments that might make others uncomfortable.
- Be Patient and Supportive: Be patient with individuals who may not have as much experience. Offer assistance and mentorship when appropriate and requested. Explain terms that others may be less familiar with.
- Feedback and Critique: Provide constructive feedback when necessary, but do so in a respectful and considerate manner. Be open to receiving feedback on your own work and ideas.
Rules
In addition to the Code of Conduct, all participants are expected to follow the rules detailed below.
- Team Size: The maximum team size is 5. There is no minimum team size. However, in the spirit of collaboration, we recommend you find at least one other person to work with.
- In-Person Teams Only: Members may only participate in-person (330 North Orchard St., Madison, WI) for the 2025 Machine Learning Marathon.
- One Challenge Per Participant: To ensure efforts are not spread too thin, each participant may only compete in one challenge/team.
- Attendance: To help teams make steady progress and maximize collaboration within/across teams, participants are expected to attend nearly all scheduled events. Occasional absences (e.g., for exams or unavoidable conflicts) are understandable, but please be respectful of your fellow teammates and the commitment they’ve made to fully participating in MLM25. If you need to show up to the weekly events after 5pm, that is OK so long as your team approves. Presentations and workshops won’t typically start until 5pm or later.
- Challenge Specific Rules: Be sure to review the “Rules” section of your chosen challenge (on Kaggle) to see if any additional rules may apply. Some challenges may limit teams to fewer than 5 members.
- Minimum Requirements: All MLM25 participants are expected to know Python, machine learning fundamentals, and GitHub (enough to collaborate). If you need to get up to speed, please complete the relevant self-paced workshop(s) prior to kickoff: Intro Python, Collaborating with GitHub Desktop, and/or Intro to Machine Learning.
